Artist Spotlight: Indianna Van Wingerden

Artist Spotlight: Indianna Van Wingerden / Homewing Creative

Welcome to our April Artist Spotlight. For anyone that doesn’t know, this is a new series we have introduced to U RESIN where we share the many talented Artists’ we get to work with and share some of their greatest achievements.

About the Artist: Indianna Van Wingerden

We had the privilege of hosting Indianna in our studio recently where we had the opportunity to watch her get creative and understand her processes when creating as well as talk more about her and how she began her resin journey. We asked some questions, and here is what we were able to learn.

Indianna’s journey with resin began when she was on maternity leave from her full time job. She found resin as a great way to express her creative flare whilst having the potential to generate some extra money to help ease the financial stresses of a growing family. Indianna had started to see resin in a few shops and fell in love with the intricate and diverse finishes resin has to offer. Indianna said “In typical me fashion, I threw all my eggs in one basket and that was that.”

Q&A Session with Indianna –

Do you remember the first piece of art you created? “I remember the first piece of work I created. I still have it stashed away as a reminder of how far I’ve come and where it all started. My first piece was a serving board and still to this day I love how it turned out.

What is your favourite medium to work with and why? “My favourite medium to work with would have to be alcohol ink in resin. I love bright colours! And I love the way the ink morphs and moves around so dramatically. I always set my phone to time lapse to capture the movement and its mesmerising to watch. My logo background is actually a picture of my first resin piece using alcohol ink.”

Where do you usually find inspiration? “I have grown to love any ocean themed works so naturally, I find my inspiration by immersing myself in nature itself.”

How do you decide when a piece is finished? “I think as an artist, you just know when a piece is finished. I can’t explain the feeling apart from the fact my brain just stops in awe and everything goes quiet. Theres no “I need to add this, or fix that” etc. it’s just done. It took me a long time to figure out the que’s for this but now I know.”

Is there a technique or medium you really want to try but haven’t? “I don’t have one specific style of resin. I don’t just do ocean, ink or marbled. I do them all. However I would love to try the geode style artworks. Combining my love for crystals and art seems like a no brainer.”

How do you overcome a ‘creative block’? “I overcome creative blocks by scrolling my camera roll and looking at what I’ve made previously – make a hybrid idea from that and GO! Other ways I clear a block, is to get out in nature or have a look in pinterest for a combination of styles that I can create my own version of.”

What is one piece of advice to anyone just starting out? “Trust the process. Let the creative juices flow and enjoy the process!  It doesn’t need to be perfect to be beautiful. The aim is to express your inner creative and enjoy yourself along the way.”
