Resin Projects to do with Kids

Resin Projects to do with Kids – Are you looking for creative ways to bond with your kids while exploring your artistic side or are school holidays coming up and you aren’t sure what to do? Crafting with resin can be a fantastic way to spend quality time together, (but safety always comes first)!

While epoxy resin isn’t suitable for kids under 16 due to safety concerns, there are plenty of fun and safe resin projects you can enjoy once the resin is fully cured. In this blog post, we’ll explore some exciting resin projects that you and your kids can do together, along with a safer alternative to epoxy resin.

  1. Keychains: Keychains are a super fun and practical project that kids of all ages can enjoy. With cured resin pieces, your kids can create personalised keychains by embedding small trinkets, charms, or even photographs. Encourage kids to add pompoms, streamers, keychain rings, crystals and other items to match the resin accessory. These can make great gifts for friends, family or teachers.
  2. Mosaics: This one is super fun and the kind of project that most people don’t realise they can do, especially with your kids! If you are a frequent resin-er making artworks, then you know you get a lot of run off. If you are pouring over black plastic, then once the resin has cured it will easily peel off. These run offs can then be cut up into different shapes and sizes to create little mosaic pieces. The sooner you peel off the run offs, the easier they will be to cut into pieces. You and your kids can then use these little pieces to create artworks, stepping stones, frames or flower pots. Simply use some glue and get creative!
  3. Jewellery: Similarly to the mosaics, you can cut little run offs into shapes to create earrings or pendants. Or if you pour resin jewellery, teach your kids how you add earring backings or hoops to create various shapes and designs. Add other accessories to the resin too so you can create one-of-a-kind pieces.
  4. Magnets: Turn ordinary refrigerator magnets into miniature works of art with resin. Whether you have leftover resin in moulds or run off resin, get some little magnets and get your kids to add magnets to the resin. These decorative magnets will add a touch of whimsy to any magnetic surface in your home.

While epoxy resin is not be suitable for kids to be mixing and pouring, there is a safer alternative that families can enjoy together: Jesmonite. Unlike epoxy resin, Jesmonite is acrylic-based and free from harmful chemicals, making it safer for kids to handle under adult supervision. Jesmonite offers similar creative possibilities as epoxy resin, allowing you and your kids to pour, mould, and sculpt unique creations with ease.

With Jesmonite, you can explore a wide range of crafting possibilities, from casting small figurines to creating decorative objects for your home. Whether you’re making planters, coasters, jewellery or decorative tiles, Jesmonite provides a safe and versatile medium for creative expression. Plus, it’s easy to clean up with just soap and water, making it perfect for crafting with kids.

So, gather your supplies, set up a crafting station, and let your imagination run wild! With resin projects and Jesmonite, you and your kids can create memories that will last a lifetime. Remember to prioritise safety, supervise young children at all times, and take any necessary safety precautions but don’t forget to have fun exploring your creative side together!
